...beautiful little yellow and orange butterflies hovering over pretty flowers in the backyard, tiny sparrows, gubbachchi as i would call them, fluttering around in the garden, the cool breeze and fresh air that filled my lungs as i took in a long deep breath, the bright blue skies and the lush greenery around... a dream u ask me? naah! these were a part of my childhood, my growing up with nature...
and now? i cant remember the last time i spotted a sparrow on our window sil or the last time i admired a colourful butterfly... where have they all gone? why have they desserted our neighbourhood? i wonder... all i see around me are concrete buildings and tar roads... the sky tinged grey and air that hurts my lungs as i breath in... have we lost something precious?
yes, we have taken nature for granted, not once pausing to think... in the name of developement we have degenerated our very life-cocoon... we have destroyed the beautiful gift given by our forefathers and are wrapping up the remains in plastic and concrete for our children...
have we lost it all? is it too late? its high time we realised that nothing is forever... we need to save this planet so that our children have a normal, healthy habitat...
we have a little chance, but we need to start today, you and me... right now, this minute... look around and we will find a thousand things that can help us make a difference...
close that leaking tap... share, your food, your books, your car, your discarded clothes, just about anything that you think another can use... switch off that light when you walk out of your room... say no to plastic... plant a sapling, tend to it and let it grow into a strong green tree... walk a mile when you have the chance... cycle rather than driving around... recycle and reuse... every little move made by us towards saving nature will ensure a better tomorrow for our very own children...
every drop of water we save today will quench the thirst of a generation tomorrow...
